TNUM2025 – 5th Biennial Conference of the Turkish Network of Urban Morphology: “From Organism Towards Habitat”
May 12, 2025 - May 14, 2025
500,00 TL
The 5th Biennial Conference of the Turkish Network of Urban Morphology (TNUM) continues the tradition of bringing together researchers and practitioners to explore the field of urban morphology. TNUM, established in 2014 during the Founding Workshop at Mersin University, has since organized a series of impactful symposiums across Türkiye. These events have been held at Mersin University (2015), Istanbul Technical University (2018), Middle East Technical University (2021), and Konya Technical University (2023), contributing to scholarly collaboration and expanding international ties through the International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF).
The 2025 edition, hosted by Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) in Trabzon, with the contributions of KTU Urban and Regional Planning Department and KTU Architecture Department, takes the theme “From Organism Towards Habitat: Continuity-discontinuity, destruction-construction, rupture-occupation” This theme emphasizes the dynamic interplay between urban forms and broader societal, ecological, and spatial challenges. By focusing on the transformation of settlements into complex, multi-layered habitats, the conference aims to address critical issues such as climate change, global warming, migration, conflicts, and the evolution of urban spaces. It seeks to build connections between urban morphology and vital areas such as socio-territorial cohesion, ecological resilience, and adaptive urban planning.
The 5th TNUM Conference aspires to bridge the gap between urban morphology and territorial planning, providing a platform for deepening analyses, strategies, methodologies, and innovative solutions. Through interdisciplinary approaches, the conference will explore how urban form can respond to contemporary challenges, fostering inclusive, sustainable, and intelligent urban development. Participants will engage in discussions about the relationship between morphology and societal dynamics, ecological balance, and digital advancements, framing urban form as a cornerstone for the collective construction of sustainable territories.
Selected papers from the symposium will be considered for publication in esteemed journals, including LivenARCH+ (LIVable ENvironments and ARCHitecture+ Journal), DRArch (Journal of Design for Resilience in Architecture and Planning), and MAD (Mekânsal Araştırmalar Dergisi – Spatial Research Journal). Proceedings of the symposium will also be published.
