SUMMARY:ISUM 2027 - 4th International School on Urban Morphology
DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR APPLICATIONS\nThe 4th International School on Urban Morphology will be hosted by the Urban Form Lab\, Cairo University\, in collaboration with the International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF) and the Arab Network on Urban Morphology (ANUM). \nOrganized in Cairo\, Egypt\, ISUM-04 explores the city’s layered urban history\, where over a millennium of continuous development has produced a complex mosaic of urban forms shaped by successive political\, social\, economic\, and cultural transformations. \nUnder the theme Urban Juxtapositions\, the school investigates the coexistence and interaction of urban forms from different historical periods\, and how their overlapping\, adaptation\, and replacement shape the contemporary city. Cairo’s layered urban fabric provides a rich context for exploring these morphological relationships. \nThrough guided tours and selected case studies\, participants will apply morphological approaches to examine the layered evolution of urban form. The school will also explore how morphological analysis can inform other fields\, including urban conservation\, heritage management\, infill development\, and other decision-making practices. \nThe school is a joint initiative with the Arab Network on Urban Morphology (ANUM)\, welcoming collaboration with all ISUF regional networks and all students engaged in urban morphology and related fields. It aims to foster a wider Global South community of practice while strengthening connections with ISUF’s international network. \nAPPLICATIONS DEADLINE\n16.10.2026 \nELIGIBILITY CRITERIA\nOpen to undergraduate students (3rd and 4th year)\, graduate and master’s students\, PhD students\, and researchers holding a PhD in Architecture\, Landscape Architecture\, Urban Design\, Urban Planning\, Urban Geography\, or related fields.
