VII Congress of the Hispánic International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF-H)

The VII ISUF-H Congress “Urban form for a good life: interdisciplinary perspectives” , invites researchers from all Spanish-speaking countries to share their experience regarding concepts, vocabulary, methods, sources and cases of good practice , with an interdisciplinary character, and related to the study of urban form. We propose a debate focused on the role of the urban form in good living, understood as a requirement of the cities of the 21st century, and a right for the people who inhabit them.

The concept of good living has its origin in the worldview of ancestral cultures and is related to a paradigm of encounter, well-being and balance between the individual and the collective, between communities and society, between human beings and their environment on different scales. and relationships of interdependence. The current cultural and social debates raise the importance of addressing the multiple global crises – climate change, migration, economic and geopolitical transformations, technological disruptions, among others – proposing visions that can guide the ways in which we live together, with criteria of justice, inclusion and sustainability. The concept of good living, of increasing relevance in Latin America and the subject of increasingly broad discussions, offers an ethic and a horizon to rethink the meaning, design and functioning of society, as well as multiple elements to understand, evaluate and rethink. the urban form and its contribution to the common good in different contexts.

This approach poses important challenges, from the integration between the various fields of urban morphology, the link between research, professional practice and institutional context, the dialogue between knowledge, and interdisciplinarity as a means to advance towards new questions, methodologies and approaches that allow us to properly address the complexity of contemporary urban challenges in all their involved dimensions.
